A wreck involving 5 semi trucks that took the lives of a truck driver and his passenger shut down Interstate 20 in Texas on Thursday morning.

The accident happened on January 4th at approximately 3:15 a.m. in Harrison County, Texas.

According to KLTV, four tractor trailers were stopped in the westbound lanes of Interstate 20 near mile marker 601 due to traffic from a previous wreck when a fifth big rig approached the scene failed to stop and collided with the four stopped tractor trailers.

The driver and passenger in the fifth semi truck, who failed to stop, were killed in the accident. No one else was seriously injured.

I-20 westbound has been shut down at mile marker 601. Motorists are being re-routed near Hallsville at exit 604 and are being urged to use Highway 80 as an alternate route.

The roadway is expected to remain closed until at least noon on Thursday as crews use bulldozers and wreckers to clear the wreckage from the roadway.
