A truck driver was hospitalized on Monday after a fiery wreck that wrapped his cab around a tree.
The incident occurred on March 19th at approximately 7:00 a.m. in Sturbridge, Massachusetts.
Lieutenant Tom Ryan of the Massachusetts State Police says that the 2015 Freightliner semi truck was driving along Interstate 84 just before Exit 1 when the truck suddenly veered off road and crashed into a tree, seriously damaging the cab and sparking a fire that quickly spread throughout the cab of the truck.
The driver was able to escape with only minor injuries and was then transported to a nearby hospital, reported The Boston Globe.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames at around 8:10 a.m. but the cab of the semi truck was a total loss.
I-84 was closed near Exit 1 for about an hour and traffic was diverted through a nearby rest area, but all lanes have since been reopened.
The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.
