One truck driver is dead after a three semi truck crash forced the partial closure of Interstate 10 in Arizona on Tuesday morning.

The accident happened on April 17th at approximately 5:15 a.m. near Tonopah, Arizona.

According to ABC 15 Arizona, the first semi truck overturned for unknown reasons in the right lane of eastbound I-10, forcing a second big rig to come to a screeching halt. The second rig was able to avoid a collision with the overturned rig, but a third semi truck was not and went plowing into the second semi truck, killing the third truck driver and forcing the second truck into the first, injuring that driver.

The first truck driver was not hurt in the crash, but the second was taken to a nearby hospital. The extent of his injuries is not known.

The third driver was pronounced dead on site.

The eastbound lanes of I-10 have been shut down as crews work to clear the wreckage and investigate the incident.

There is no estimated time of reopening, but the Arizona Department of Transportation says that crews are waiting on the arrival of heavy duty tow trucks to aid in the cleanup, which could take most of the day.

ADOT suggests all drivers use the I-10 eastbound detour at Vicksburg Road near milepost 45, then go north to US 60, east to Salome Road and then drive southeast back to I-10 past crash site.
