A trucker’s wife and child have passed away after a family ride in the rig turned into a deadly wreck on Interstate 85.
It happened on Sunday, October 15th at approximately 10 a.m. in Troup County, Georgia, but the individuals involved were identified on Monday.
According to La Grange Daily News, 31-year-old Christopher Lee Berni was driving with his wife and two children in his semi truck and lost control of the rig after taking the ramp from Interstate 185 to northbound Interstate 85, between exits 18 and 21.
After losing control, the tractor trailer crashed through a guardrail and drove off the ramp.
The trucker’s wife, 29-year-old Cynthia Lynn Harris, and one of his children, 1-year-old Christopher Bernie Jr. died in the crash.
The second child, an infant named Christian Lane Bernie, was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The driver, Christopher Lee Berni, was taken to a nearby hospital as well.
“The driver failed to negotiate the curve, lost control, striking a guardrail,” said Georgia State Patrol Master Trooper Dexter Cladd.
A portion of I-85 was shut down for several hours as crews investigated the incident, but has since been reopened.
An update on the condition of the driver and his surviving child has not yet been released.
