A tractor trailer overturned and three people were hospitalized on Tuesday morning after a case of drunk driving.

It happened west of Charlotte, North Carolina on Interstate 85 at approximately 12:30 a.m.

According to WCNC, 49-year-old Winnie Shurlow was driving her SUV on I-85 south between exits 36 and 37 when she lost control and drifted out of her lane, hitting a semi truck hauling a double trailer of sporting goods.

Shurlow then ricocheted off of the double trailer truck and into another car.

The tractor trailer swerved on impact and lost control, hitting the concrete barrier and sideswiping another SUV, trapping it between the wall and the truck.

The truck driver and two men in the trapped SUV were taken to the hospital.

One of the three sustained serious injuries, while the other two victim’s injuries were not life threatening. It has not yet been clarified which victim was seriously injured.

The two left lanes of I-85 southbound were closed as crews worked to right the overturned semi truck and clear the 6 foot stretch of crumbled concrete barrier.

All lanes were open by approximately 7 a.m.

State troopers have charged Shurlow with reckless driving, DWI, and driving with an open container. The identities of the trucker and two other victims were not released.
