A truck driver fell asleep at the wheel and went crashing into a construction zone on Friday morning.
The accident occurred on September 29th at around 7:00 a.m. in Londonderry, New Hampshire.
According to CBS Boston, the unnamed truck driver was traveling north on Interstate 93 near exit 4 when they fell asleep at the wheel, sending the rig veering off the roadway and into the center median before striking a dump truck and another car parked in a construction zone.
No one was injured in the incident but the force of the impact ruptured the rig’s fuel tank and spilled around 125 gallons of diesel fuel. The truck was hauling paint and other construction materials at the time of the wreck.
“Fortunately, nobody was hurt,” Sgt. Steven Callinan said. “It was an active construction zone with a lot of workers walking around, but nobody was hurt.”
“A couple of feet one way or the other and it could have been multiple fatalities,” added Londonderry Fire Battalion Chief Jim Roger.
The truck driver was later cited for negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
