A truck driver says a GPS glitch caused his tractor trailer to get stuck under a low overpass during morning rush hour traffic in Massachusetts earlier this week.

It happened on September 13th, underneath the Prospect Street railroad bridge in Chicopee, Massachusetts.

According to Western Mass News, the truck driver was traveling on Prospect Street when he failed to observe the posted signs warning of the 11’9” low clearance.

As the driver tried to pass underneath the railroad crossing overpass, the top of the trailer got caught on the ceiling, wedging the semi beneath the bridge and nearly breaking the trailer in half.

The truck driver claims that he was following the directions of a GPS specifically programmed to avoid low clearance areas, but that the system “must have had a glitch.”

It took clean up crews several hours to remove the stuck tractor trailer, leading to significant traffic backups in the surrounding area.

The truck was finally removed around 1 p.m. according to WWLP.

The underpass frequently sees trucks wedged beneath the over pass, but a local automotive business owner says that this particular incident is the “worst he’s seen” of its kind in the area.
