Earlier this week, the FMCSA officially published their Electronic Logging Device mandate, requiring most truck drivers to switch from paper logs to electronic logs by the end of 2017.
As expected, not many drivers are excited about the change. Many questioned the safety benefits of the new rules, and joked about the odd pre-2000 vehicle exemption.
One driver sent us this well put together response, which echoes the sentiment shared by many. The video, which can be seen at the top of this article, was sent to us by Ernesto Gutierrez Jr. of the Professional Trucker’s Association Group.
“What in the hell does the year of the truck have anything to do with safety?” Gutierrez says in the clip. “You should punish the ones with horrible safety scores, not the whole damn industry,” he adds.
Most drivers agreed with his point of view.
There were some supporters of the ELD mandate, however.
Barring a major turn of events, all drivers will be forced to switch from paper logs to electronic logs by 2017, whether they like it or not.
Unless, of course, you own (or buy) a pre-2000 semi. 😉
