In Pittston, Pennsylvania, a businessman’s citation for an overweight semi truck was withdrawn.

Businessman Bob Bolus from Lackawanna County received the citation in late March after a Donald Trump campaign truck got stuck on Water Street Bridge.

At around 4:30 on March 30th, the campaign truck was headed down Kennedy Boulevard when it attempted to make a right turn onto the bridge. The truck didn’t clear the turn and instead got stuck on the corner, resulting in a traffic backup that lasted for an hour.

Suspecting that the truck was over the bridge’s weight limit, Pittston City Police gave a citation.

However, at the time the citation was given, the police officer did not have access to the contents of the trailer. The Donald Trump campaign is only accessible through the use of a small hole, only available to the Secret Service.

The citation was written based on an assumption.

According to Times Leader, on Tuesday, truck owner Bob Bolus and his company had their citation for $708 withdrawn after they produced a weight slip.

They proved that the truck was under the weight limit.

Bolus commented:

“We spoke with the officer prior and, in fairness to him, he wasn’t allowed to look into the trailer because it was sealed.”

He furthered:

“He assumed it was an overweight truck. We showed him the weight slip and it was well within the parameters to go across the bridge.”

Bolus and the truck’s driver, Kishan Tomczyk, 45, of the Green Ridge section of Scranton, said that the truck was not carrying cargo. They explained that the truck weighed 29,480 pounds, while the bridge’s maximum capacity allowed 40,000 pounds or 20 tons.

Tomczyk commented:

“I told (the officer) it was empty. I think it was just the size of the truck that he thought it was overweight.”

Tomczyk admitted that she should have been driving in the “straight line” instead of the right turn lane on Kennedy Boulevard. This would have given her a better angle with which to approach the bridge.

She furthered:

“I just took the turn too tight and I was in the lane that you would use if you were in a car. I should have been over in the straight lane so I could swing out and let the trailer follow.”

Earlier this year, Bob Bolus donated the truck to the Donald Trump campaign. The truck travels the country in support of the Republican candidate.
