Two men in a semi truck were arrested for possession of $3.6 million worth of cocaine on Saturday after being stopped for following too closely.

The incident occurred on January 20th in Newburgh, New York at approximately 12:30 a.m.

According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were on patrol along the New York State Thruway when officers say they noticed a tractor trailer following too close behind a car.

County Sheriff Carl E. DuBois then pulled the semi over and performed a traffic stop investigation, which then led to a probable cause search of the vehicle using K9 officers.

During the search the dogs alerted to the presence of illegal drugs, and officers discovered a sack containing 10 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated value of $3.6 million.

The two men in the semi truck, San Elizario, Texas-residents, Saul Onzures and Francisco Castillo Jr., were then placed under arrest and taken to the Orange County Jail without bail.

Onzures and Castillo are facing charges of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree, a felony.
