Police say a semi truck failed to slow for stopped traffic, causing a fatal 3 vehicle pile-up.
It happened on Wednesday, September 20th at approximately 1:13 p.m. in Kankakee County, Illinois.
According to WGNTV, as traffic came to a halt in a construction zone on Interstate 57, a tractor trailer that failed to slow down plowed into the back of a sedan, sandwiching the vehicle between another tractor trailer in front of it.

A passenger in the car, 26-year-old Jake H. Hemrick, was killed in the accident.
The driver and another passenger in the car were taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition.
The driver of the truck in front was taken to a nearby hospital with non life threatening injuries. The driver of the truck that struck the sedan was treated for minor injuries on scene.

The 68-year-old truck driver responsible for the crash was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
Traffic was backed up along I-57 until early evening, but has since cleared.
