A tractor trailer loaded with vodka overturned while making a turn off of Highway 70, leaving crews with quite the clean-up.
It happened on Thursday, September 21st at approximately 5:45 a.m. in Clayton, North Carolina.
According to WFMY, a tractor trailer hauling vodka was traveling on U.S. 70 when it attempted to make a turn onto Shotwell road. As it was turning, the truck lost control and flipped on its side, shattering glass and spilling liquor inside of the trailer.
A passerby then saw the accident and stopped to help the trucker out of his overturned cab, reported ABC 11. The truck driver was unhurt.
Cleanup crews arrived on scene and attempted to flip the semi truck back onto its wheels, but the pallets of vodka proved to be too heavy, and the trailer warped and twisted.
The cab of the truck has since been flipped, but the Clayton Police department says that the 17 pallets of vodka will have to be unloaded before a “special wrecker” arrives to flip the trailer.
Shotwell road has been completely shut down from U.S. 70 to Old Garner Road, and U.S. 70 west is down to 2 open lanes. The cleanup is expected to last until 5 p.m.
It is not clear how much vodka was spilled or how many glass bottles were shattered.
The identity of the truck driver has not yet been released.
