3 people are miraculously uninjured after a tractor trailer hauling cattle shifted on Monday morning, crushing a car and trapping 3 people inside.
The incident occurred on December 18th at approximately 3:30 a.m. near Kanarraville, Utah.
According to Cedar City Utah News, truck driver Dan Beneda was driving his semi truck hauling cows along Interstate 15 southbound when the trailer shifted, overturning the truck and crushing a sedan.
Beneda was not hurt in the incident, but three men inside the sedan were trapped. They managed to call 911 from inside the crushed car and stayed on the phone with dispatchers for over an hour as crews worked to stabilize the trailer so that the men could be extricated from the car. Luckily, the 3 men were basically unhurt.
“There were three male passengers in the Hyundai and fortunately they were relatively uninjured, one guy had a cut hand and the others didn’t seem like they were hurt,” said Sgt. Mower of the Utah Highway Patrol.
Beneda says that he’s not sure exactly what caused the shift, but that he believes it may have had to do with the cattle he was hauling.
“I got up beside him and the truck just started coming over,” explained Beneda.
“We ended here together and the car was underneath the trailer. Either the cattle shifted, or the wind picked my trailer up and slammed it into the rail here,” he continued.
10 cows were killed in the wreck and the three unidentified men were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, where they are expected to make a full recovery. It is not clear whether any citations will be issued for the incident.
