A vehicle slammed into a turning semi truck in Michigan on Monday, crushing the car and killing the driver.

The accident occurred on April 16th in Kent City, Michigan.

According to WZZM 13 News, the semi truck was stopped a stop sign at the intersection of Michigan Highway 37 and Fruit Ridge Avenue when it began to turn left. A vehicle traveling south then crashed into the side of the tractor trailer, seriously damaging the car and killing the motorist inside.

The unnamed truck driver was not hurt in the crash, but a medical helicopter was called in as a precaution. Officials say that the helicopter was unable to reach the accident due to weather.

The crash forced officials to shut down M-37 at the 17 Mile exit and divert traffic to Fruit Ridge Avenue southbound. The roadway was reopened at around 6:00 p.m. that evening.

The exact reason for the collision is still under investigation, but Michigan State Police say that motorists frequently drive “way too fast” on Fruit Ridge Avenue.
