Several people were injured after a driver sped through New York City at speeds over 100 mph and slammed into a dump truck earlier this week.

This incident happened in midtown Manhattan at approximately 2 a.m. on Wednesday.

According to the New York Police Department, 25-year-old Antonios Sikolas was driving his Honda Civic on Third Avenue, ignoring all the red lights.

As the Civic drove through the intersection of Third and 34th on a red light, it collided with the Dept. of Transportation dump truck that had a green light. The collision also sent the truck crashing into a taxi that was idling nearby.

The force of the impact forced the Honda underneath the truck and sheared off the roof.

Customers and employees from nearby businesses rushed out to try and help the passengers until EMS arrived.

“We tried to wake them up.… there was a lot of blood, blood all over, especially the driver — his chest, his face, his tongue,” said Ell Lan, who was visiting a Hookah lounge across the street when the accident occurred.

“He must have been going at least 120 miles an hour,” said Donald Johnson, manager of a café near the scene of the accident.

Four people were injured as a result of the wreck. All were transported to the hospital.

The cab and truck drivers were treated only for minor injuries.

One of the injured men from the Honda went into cardiac arrest on the way but was able to be revived at the hospital.

Police say that Sikolas “disobeyed a steady red light at a high rate of speed and was impaired by alcohol.”

Police also say that Sikolas “had a suspended license and a warrant for failing to appeal for a previous suspension.”

Sikolas has been charged with a DWI, vehicular assault, and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
