Two people have died after a car crashed into a parked semi truck on Monday, June 3rd.
It happened on Brown Road outside of Santa Maria, California at approximately 7 p.m.
According to The San Luis Obispo Tribune, a Saturn Sedan was heading eastbound on Brown Road when it ignored a stop sign and blew through the Highway 1 intersection.
The Saturn continued speeding down the road when it crossed some raised railroad tracks, sending the car airborne. The car then crashed into the back of a semi truck that was parked on the side of the road.
There were two male passengers in the Saturn Sedan. Both were killed in the accident.
“Because of the speed, the vehicle lost control, spun out of control, struck the back of a parked big-rig trailer, and the impact caused two fatalities in that vehicle,” said Sergent Charles Hoops of the California Highway Patrol.
The driver of the semi truck was not hurt.
Both roadway and railroad traffic was diverted for several hours as officials cleaned up the scene, but both have since been reopened.
The California Highway Patrol plans to use security video from a packing plant in the area to aid in the investigation of the incident.
The names of the two men killed, as well as the name of the truck driver, have not been released.
