A long line of semi trucks were stranded along Interstate 10 in Houston, Texas and parts of Louisiana on Wednesday after unusually low temperatures left the roads icy and slick, forcing a shutdown.

The shut downs occurred early Wednesday morning, January 17th, before 7:30 a.m.

According to Fox 26 news, officials shut down Interstate 10 eastbound throughout the downtown Houston area, as well as I-10 westbound at Studemont Street, because the roadways were just too slick with ice to allow for safe travel.

Interstate 10 has also been shut down in Louisiana in both directions from Lafayette all the way to Williams Boulevard in Kenner, Louisiana, WAFB reports.

I-10 is a major trucking highway, and the road closures have left many rigs stranded in the middle of the highway for hours, with nowhere to go.

As of 10:30 a.m., many parts of I-10 in the affected areas remained closed with no estimated time of reopening.
