A motorist was arrested Tuesday after causing a fatal wreck involving a dump truck and then attempting to flee on foot.

The accident happened on September 3rd in Brockton, Massachusetts.

According to Boston CBS, 33-year-old Danielle Mastro was driving her Audi A6 on Quincy street when she rear-ended a Chevy Equinox. The force of the impact pushed the Equinox into a lane of oncoming traffic and into the path of a dump truck.

The dump truck driver swerved trying to avoid the Equinox but was unable to avoid a collision. The collision between the dump truck and the Equinox sent the dump truck off the road and into the yard of a nearby home.

The woman driving the Equinox was killed in the crash, and a passenger in the Equinox was sent to the hospital with moderate injuries. The dump truck driver suffered only minor injuries.

Immediately following the crash, Mastro attempted to flee the scene on foot but was quickly found by police officers responding to the crash.

The dump truck, which was hauling large amounts of dirt, landed only inches away from the walls of the house.

“I don’t know how he didn’t hit the house I really don’t,” said Patty Rose, owner of the home nearly crushed by the dump truck.

“When I opened my daughter’s window right on the corner where the truck is, I opened up the screen and I could literally touch the truck…” Rose continued.

Officials say it was a “testament to his abilities” that the dump truck driver was able to avoid striking the house by a mere 6 inches.

Mastro was taken into custody and was scheduled to go before a judge to face charges of vehicular homicide and fleeing the scene of an accident on Wednesday, September 4th. The results of that arraignment have not yet been released.

The reason for the initial rear-ending, as well as the identities of the 3 other people involved, are not yet known.
