Earlier this week we reported on an accident that occurred on Interstate 80 in Utah, where a fatigued and slow-reacting car driver became stuck underneath a semi truck.
And in a matter of days, it’s happened again.
This time, the incident occurred Thursday morning near the intersection of Glendale and Central Avenues in Phoenix, Arizona.
According to police, a 21-year-old car driver was headed westbound when he ran a red light and crashed into a semi truck.
The impact caused the car to become wedged underneath the trailer into a ball of twisted metal.
Although the semi truck was traveling at speeds of 30 mph and stopped quickly, the car was crushed.
ABC15 reported that the car driver suffered serious head injuries and was hospitalized in critical condition. The truck driver was not reported to be injured.
Police stated that car driver’s fatigue was a factor in a crash. Neither intoxication nor speeding was apparent.
Traffic delays were extensive while special investigators were called to the scene.
By 9 a.m., Central Avenue was reopened.
