One person is dead after a sedan left its lane and struck a semi truck head on in Houston on Thursday, forcing the closure of Almeda Road.

The accident happened early morning on February 8th in Houston, Texas.

According to ABC 13, a sedan was traveling north on Almeda Road near Reed Road when, for unknown reasons, the car left its lane and drifted into the path of an oncoming semi truck, causing a serious collision and forcing the semi truck into a white pickup truck before eventually coming to a stop over some railroad tracks.

The driver of the sedan was killed in the crash, and the trucker was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. The pickup driver was not hurt in the incident.

“It’s a real bad scene. The engine is out of the Volvo. A pretty violent impact,” said Lt. Paul George.

“For some reason she [the sedan driver] might have overcorrected her steering,” he continued.

Police are still investigating the exact cause of the incident, and no citations have been issued.

As of 11:45 a.m., Almeda Road was still closed south of Reed Road as crews worked to remove the semi truck from the railroad tracks and clear the debris from the roadway.
