A truck driver turned a roadside scare into a holiday meal after his rig was struck by a wild turkey just days before Thanksgiving.
Kameron Shrader was startled when a large object shattered his windshield while traveling in Lubbock, Texas. “It was very, very loud, and I couldn’t even tell you what was going on,” he said.
When he stopped on a service road to examine that damage, he discovered that he was hit by a large wild turkey.
“By the time I got stopped, I realized it was a big ol’ turkey, and then kind of started thinking about it being Thanksgiving, and it was kind of ironic.”
While on the service road, Shrader saw a family who lived nearby and got a brilliant idea…
“A little family came out and I asked them if they could use it,” he said. “They were pretty excited, it was a pretty good-size turkey, so he took it up to the house and I guess they got a turkey dinner out of it.”
Besides the damage to his rig, the Thanksgiving scare turned out well — Shrader wasn’t injured and was able to make it home to his family, and the Turkey found its way to another family’s dinner table.
