In this video posted on May 22nd from LiveLeak, a truck is seen transporting an oversized load as it travels through Los Angeles roads on its way to the California Science Center.
What did it haul? A 66,000-pound space shuttle fuel tank. This behemoth is roughly half the size of a football field or as tall as a 15 story building.
On May 21, the truck traveled at a mere 5 miles per hour to its destination. It was guided by a team of eight men on foot who used radios to assist the driver as he navigated turns.
According to CBS News, it took months to plan its move as police closed streets, and public works altered traffic lights and utility wires to make way for the massive tank.
Excited onlookers lined the streets in a parade-like fashion.
The fuel tank was shipped from New Orleans to California via the Panama Canal.
Eventually, the tank is to be displayed inside the California Science Center. It will be situated in the full launch position, attached to two rocket boosters, along with the space shuttle Endeavour.
