Uber’s self-driving semi truck startup ‘Otto’ just delivered their first commercial truckload — a trailer full of Budweiser beer.
The 120-mile trip started in Fort Collins, Colorado, and ended in Colorado Springs. The truck was carrying 45,000 special edition cans of Budweiser, which were designed to commemorate the event.
The driver of the truck left the wheel after pulling onto the highway and spent much of the trip in the sleeper cabin.
The self-driving vehicle navigated along Interstate 25, at roughly 55 miles-per-hour, followed by police escorts.
“The initial appeal for us was to see how we could meet the needs of a company like Anheuser-Busch,” Otto co-founder Lior Ron told reporters. “But now after this successful test, we’re eager to see how it will handle other roads and other weather,” he added.
