A man ran in front of an oncoming semi truck in an apparent suicide attempt on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident occurred on October 23rd at around 1:00 p.m. in Lebanon, Pennsylvania.

Police say that the 53-year-old unnamed man ran onto eastbound Interstate 78 near mile marker 31.3 and leaped in front of an oncoming Freightliner Cascadia tractor trailer traveling in the right lane. 28-year-old trucker, Alexy Sidorov, then swerved into the left lane to avoid the man but was unable to do so in time, allowing the man to strike the right side of the truck before being thrown to the ground by the impact.

The unnamed man suffered a contusion to his forehead and broke bones in both of his arms and in his right ankle, reported Lebanon Daily News.

Sidorov was unhurt in the incident.

Police say that the man explained that he was “going through hard times,” leading to his suicidal actions.
