An Iowa man took a 2013 Peterbilt semi for a destructive spin through a Nebraska neighborhood, knocking down power poles, tearing up lawns, and significantly damaging the truck in the process.

The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. on June 15, 2018 near South Sixth and Pierce Streets in South Omaha, Nebraska.

According to the Omaha World-Herald, police halted the 52-year-old driver after following a series of rubber tire marks from the trailer’s blown out rear tires, eventually catching up to him twenty minutes after he got behind the wheel.

After ordering the man out of the truck, the officer noticed his bloodshot eyes, along with a strong alcohol odor. The man, who had reportedly been drinking since midnight, claimed to have only “hit a few things.”

The driver also complained of back pain, the alleged reason for not performing a blood-alcohol blow test. The claim of back pain was later dispelled when he was seen moving about the police station apparently without limited movement or pain.

The driver was charged with driving under the influence-first offense, refusing to take a DUI test, driving a truck weighing more than 12,000 pounds on residential streets, and four counts of leaving a crash scene.

No injuries were reported.
