Most of us played with Lego’s growing up, heck some still do, but it’s a fair bet to say that you’ve seen never anything like this before. Not only is this car built out of Lego, it’s powered by a compressed air engine which is made out of Lego too!
This gem was created by Steve Sammartino, an entrepreneur from Melbourne, and Raul Oaida, a “self taught tech genius” from Romania. The two met on the internet where they planned their creation and funded it through just one tweet:
“Anyone interested in investing $500-$1000 in a project which is awesome & a world first tweet me. Need about 20 participants“… #startup” — Steve Sammartino (@sammartino) February 29, 2012
In response, 40 Australian patrons happily donated the money needed to make this Lego dream come true.
More than 500,000 Lego pieces were used to build it. The engine has four orbital engines and a total of 256 pistons. The fastest it can go is @ 20-30 km or 12- 18 mph.
The creators stated, “we were scared of a Lego explosion, so we drove it slowly.”
