A trucker was saved from burning to death in his sleep after a passerby noticed a parked semi truck going up in flames.
The rescue happened in McAllen, Texas on Thursday, June 8th before 11:30 p.m.
According to Channel 5 News, Hugo Medina saw the burning semi as he was on his way to work and pulled over to see if there was anybody inside.
“There was a guy inside on the bed. You were able to see him,” said Medina.
“So I hit the door with my elbow…. The guy screamed…. I told him ‘Get out! It’s Burning!’”
The truck driver, whose name has not been released, managed to exit the burning rig without any injuries.
“The gentleman did the right thing,” said Capt. Juan Jalomo, the McAllen fire marshal.
It’s “human nature… to try to save someone’s life,” Jalamo continued.
Despite the heroic effort, Jalamo advises that others contact 911 prior to attempting any rescues themselves. Watch an interview with the local news station below.
