Margarette Sherman Kirsch lives her life in a way that many envy—by living it to the fullest. Full of zeal for a life well-lived, Margarette decided to fulfill her dream of riding a big rig across country.

Sure this might not seem like the craziest dream, but there’s something different about this lady. Although it’s hard to believe by her vibrant spirit and endless enthusiasm, Margarette is actually 82 years old. But as evidenced by this spunky lady, age is simply a number.

Margarette says,

“I’m 82-years old and I’m still doing the same things I did when I was 21 or 22. It doesn’t matter how old I am because I have not allowed myself to think old or be old.”

Her wish finally came true when the Twilight Wish Foundation, a nonprofit which grants wishes to senior citizens, made it happen.

It took a few years to fulfill her big dream, but they finally did.

Although Margarette couldn’t legally drive the big rig, she was able to experience the open road from inside the truck. Margarette was accompanied by veteran truck driver and songwriter, Anabella Wood.

She not only drove the truck but also documented their journey by song.

Annabella volunteered to drive Margarette to California and then back to her Florida home. The journey took 16 days, and they traveled over 7,000 miles.

Margarette told media that her hosts were shocked that an old woman like herself was so self-reliant.

She said,

“They couldn’t believe that this 82-year-old lady could climb in and out of the cab of the truck without any help. Off to the side, I’d see they’d have a wheelchair or walker or walking stick.”

Margarette hopes that the publicity gained from her experience will make the public more aware about helping senior citizens.

She ended her video with a powerful message.

“ I always act as though it is impossible to fail. I get my hands dirty, fall flat on my face, and I reached for the stars. I have lived my life with gusto.”

After falling in love with the whole experience, Margarette’s plans to take on taking truck driving lessons so she can get a real feel for the trucker’s life.
