Earlier this week, we reported on a large police DUI checkpoint at a weigh station on Interstate 95 in Chatham County, Georgia. More than 50 officers took place in the checkpoint, looking for signs of impairment in truck drivers, and also looking for equipment and logbook violations.

On Friday, the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety released the results of the surprise checkpoint, revealing that a shockingly high 41 out of 57 drivers inspected were placed out of service. The GOHS reported that 6 drivers were placed out of service for impairment.

Georgia GOHS wrote the following on Facebook:

“The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety with the Georgia State Patrol and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division held commercial motor vehicle roadchecks on Interstates 95 & 16 in Chatham County this week. Troopers and MCCD officers took 41 drivers off the road in 57 inspections. 6 of the drivers were taken out of service for being impaired. 35 drivers were taken off the road because of other violations. Two commercial vehicles were also parked due to safety violations. These roadchecks saved lives by impaired and drowsy drivers and unsafe vehicles off the road.”
