A truck carrying 7,500 pounds of slime eels overturned on Highway 101 yesterday afternoon, covering the roadway with slime and live eels.
It happened on Thursday, July 13th on Highway 101 outside of Depoe Bay, Oregon at approximately 12:00 p.m.
According to KGW, the driver of a flatbed truck was driving north on Highway 101 when he approached a construction zone and suddenly slammed his brakes, causing his load to shift.

A container full of slime eels flew off the truck and skidded across the highway, causing a four vehicle crash and littering slime and eels across the pavement.
One minor injury was reported as a result of the crash.
The highway was closed for cleanup until around 4 p.m.
“Approximately 150-200 yards of roadway blocked with fish and cars,” said Oregon State Police Senior Trooper Brian Tucker.

“It was just a mess of fish coming down the highway,” added Depoe Bay Fire Department Lieutenant Eric Leonard.
The slime eels, also known as hagfish, secrete extra slime when they are stressed, making a big mess even bigger with the extra goo.
The slime eels were heading for Korea, where they were to be used for “consumption.”
