A 60 vehicle pile up forced the closure of a portion of Interstate 94 in Michigan on Friday.

The accident occurred on March 9th at approximately 10:30 a.m. in Jackson, Michigan.

Michigan state Police say that a sudden snow squall caused whiteout conditions along Interstate 94 westbound near Race Road, which led to the massive 60 vehicle pile-up involving multiple cars and semi trucks.

There were several non life threatening injuries sustained in the pile-up, though the exact number is not clear, reported Fox 2 Detroit.

I-94 has been shut down at Race Road as officials work to clear the wreckage and investigate the incident, causing congestion on both the westbound and eastbound sides of the highway. As of 12:30 p.m., there was no estimated time of reopening.
