
A portion of Interstate 35E was closed near Waxahachie Thursday afternoon after a semi truck hauling 40,000 pounds of avocados caught fire.
The accident happened on December 28th at approximately 12:00 p.m. south of Waxahachie, Texas.
According to WFAA News, a semi truck was traveling south on I-35E near FM 329 when it caught fire, completely destroying the trailer and many of the avocados inside.
The identity and condition of the truck driver have not been released.
The exact cause of the incident was still under investigation as crews worked to put out the remaining flames and clear the wreckage.
Traffic is getting by on the shoulder, but the north and southbound lanes of I-35E have been closed and are expected to remain closed for several more hours with no estimated time of reopening.
Drivers are advised to take US Highway 77 as an alternate route.
