17 people were discovered locked inside a tractor trailer parked at a Flying J truck stop in south Texas on Sunday.

They were found on August 13th at approximately 11 a.m. at the Flying J truck stop off Interstate 69C in Edinburg, Texas.

According to KRPC News,  officials arrived at the truck stop after receiving a call from someone in Mexico warning officials that their family member, along with many others, were locked inside a parked trailer that was getting dangerously hot.

Police responded to the Flying J truck stop and located the trailer. After knocking on the outside of the trailer and hearing signs of life coming from the inside, officials proceeded to unlock the trailer and release 17 people from inside.

The Mexican, Romanian, Honduran, and Guatemalan undocumented immigrants had been locked inside the trailer for around 8 hours.

Temperatures reached a high of 102’ that day, but no one inside the trailer required medical attention.

Two Cuban nationals, a man and a woman, were in charge of the truck and were taken into custody.

This comes barely one month after more than 30 immigrants were found locked inside of a sweltering trailer in a Walmart parking lot just outside of San Antonio, 20 of them in critical condition from the heat.

The US Customs and Border Protection has since taken over the investigation.
