More than 1,500 pounds of marijuana were discovered inside of a semi trailer’s roof at an immigration check point in Arizona on Wednesday.
The incident happened on December 13th at the Nogales Station on Interstate 19 near Armando, Arizona.
US Customs and Border Patrol reports that a Border Patrol canine alerted to a suspicious odor upon first inspection of the semi truck, prompting a secondary inspection. Agents then searched the big rig and discovered 131 bundles of marijuana hidden inside the roof of the trailer, weighing in at 1,500 pounds.
The marijuana, which is valued at more than $770,000, was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Agency, along with the 32-year-old Mexican national truck driver, who is currently in custody.
It is not clear what charges will be filed against the unidentified truck driver.
