A red light runner crashed into a semi truck on Tuesday, causing the rig’s fuel tank to rupture and spill diesel fuel all over a busy intersection.
The incident happened on U.S. 33 in Goshen, Indiana.
According to The Elkhart Trurth, the driver of the 2002 GMC Yukon didn’t realize the light turned red — because she was distracted by her dog in the backseat. After failing to stop at the light, the 33-year-old woman crashed into a semi truck that was headed north.
The SUV struck the side of the semi truck, rupturing its fuel tank and causing diesel fuel to pour across the Third Street and U.S. 33 intersection. At least three witnesses saw the woman pass the red light, police said.
The road was closed for several hours, as cleanup crews removed an estimated 50 gallons of diesel fuel.
The SUV driver was transported to IU Health Goshen Hospital with minor injuries. The truck driver was not injured.
