On Tuesday, in Thomaston, Maine, a woman was run over by a tractor trailer.
Around 1 p.m., 67-year-old Louise Demers from Rockport, Maine, was walking on the sidewalk on her way to the post office to get mail.WMUR reported that as she approached the cross walk, an 18 wheeler pulled up to main street.
It happened at the intersection of Main and Beechwood.
According to WGME, truck driver, 54-year-old Leo Pilore of Loudon, New Hampshire was waiting at a red light. As the light turned green, the truck driver pulled out, turned left onto main street, hit the woman, and ran over her.
It was captured by a store’s surveillance camera.
Investigators believe that the truck driver did not see Demers when she walked in front of his vehicle.
Witnesses on the scene rushed to her aid and called 911. When the truck driver realized what had happened, he immediately got out of his vehicle to help the woman.
One witness commented on the truck driver and the incident:
“Oh, his reaction was horrific. He was a mess. We all care about that woman, but I also care about that guy. You know, he didn’t see her. It was an accident.”
The woman was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport for treatment of her non-life -threatening injuries.
The intersection was closed for several hours.
The crash remains under investigation. Currently, no charges have been filed against the truck driver.
