A woman committed suicide by stepping in front of a moving semi truck while walking her dog on Interstate 15 in Centerville, Utah, early Saturday morning.

A police officer was dispatched to the area after getting reports about a woman walking her dog on the interstate around 3 a.m. Before the officer arrived, another call was made, stating that the woman and her dog had been hit by a semi truck.

The woman was later identified as 36-year-old Laurie Lake, a resident of Centerville. Both Lake and her dog died instantly.

According to Fox-13, police believe it was a case of a “suicide by truck.” Lt. Mike McKay of the Utah Highway Patrol noted that department had previous contact with the woman.

“We’ve had contact with this individual previously,” he said. “She’s been dealing with some mental health issues.”

The truck driver and several witnesses cooperated with police in their investigation. “We don’t suspect any alcohol or drugs on the driver,” McKay said.

An on-ramp and one lane of the highway were closed during the investigation, but have since reopened.
