Has it truly happened? Has society finally opened their eyes and realize that commercial drivers are the true white knights of the road?
A recent national poll made it apparent that the majority of people believe that truck drivers are safer on the road than passenger driven vehicles, by a whopping percent margin to boot.
As if that news wasn’t surprising enough, there’s more. 90 percent of the poll takers believe trucker are less likely to speed than passenger drivers.
70 percent feel the majority of truck and car related accidents are caused by passenger vehicles. Only 7 percent believe truckers are dangerous drivers.
The poll was conducted on Sept. 20-24 for the American Trucking Associations and surveyed 800 people. It should come to no surprise to those of us in the industry.
Unfortunately the media continues to portray truckers as highway killers, perhaps because the consequences of unsafe driving are much more brutal towards a trucker than to a passenger driver who usually only gets a finger wag.
It is, however, a breath of fresh air to know that the public is wising up to the negative perception that the media has branded on the trucking industry.
