A severe flood engulfed parts of southern Louisiana and southern Mississippi. At least one person has been killed in the flood, and Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards has declared a state of emergency.

A tanker truck was no match for the powerful current that swept through a Louisiana highway on Friday.

According to WBRZ, the truck was washed into a ditch while attempting to travel down a flooded road. It happened around noon on Highway 10 between Clinton and Greensburg.

The driver fought high waters while he exited the cab.

He climbed on top of the truck where he waited for emergency crews to arrive.

The National Weather Service reminds motorists to practice safe driving during hazardous road conditions.

“Turn around, Don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Move to higher ground now. Act quickly to Protect Your Life. Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become unstable and unsafe.”
