Trooper Chris Webb with the Washington State Patrol told media:

“The semi truck is on its side, and then the container truck… is hooked up on a guardrail and the container’s half way off — it’s going to be a really long ordeal to get everything cleared out.”

SR-18 was closed for over 5 hours while crews worked to clear the scene.

Both truck drivers were taken to the hospital to treat minor injuries. The passengers of the car were uninjured.

Officials reported that investigations are underway to determine why the semi was traveling in the wrong direction.
