A runaway semi truck caused a multiple vehicle crash after rolling from a Connecticut rest area onto Interstate 95 on Monday.
It happened near the Darien-Stamford border, shortly before 2 p.m. According to Connecticut State Police, the unattended truck did not have its emergency brakes set and rolled out of its parking space, through a metal guardrail, and onto southbound Interstate 95.
The semi struck a box truck and a Nissan Altima after rolling onto the highway. The impact caused the box truck to strike a fourth vehicle, an Acura MDX.
All four vehicles came to a stop after hitting the concrete barrier. One person was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the semi was cited for not properly setting his emergency brakes. Another driver in the pileup was cited for driving with a suspended license.
