An overpass on Interstate 10 in Kerville, Texas, is starting to prove troublesome for some truck drivers, after shrinking due to road construction.

The overpass, located near Harper Road, is currently marked with a 15’5″ clearance sign, however many oversize loads, which should be able to pass underneath without issue, are scraping the bottom of the bridge.

Over the years, TxDot has responded to the wear and tear on the road by resurfacing the highway, but the resurfacing has raised the roadway by nearly a foot — lowering the actual height clearance of the bridge.

“Obviously the more asphalt we add, the roadway begins to increase,” said Texas DOT spokeswoman Laura Lopez.

According to Fox San Antonio, TxDOT has plans to reverse the problems, but says it’ll take 18 months and cost approximately $6 million dollars to fix.
