A truck driver was killed after being struck head-on by another semi that swerved to avoid a pickup truck.
The accident happened on Wednesday morning in Boston Township, Michigan, at the intersection of M-21 (Bluewater Highway) and Hawley Highway.
According to the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office, a southbound pickup truck, driven by 40-year-old Lisa Thrush, pulled into the path of a westbound semi truck at the intersection, causing the semi to swerve in order to avoid a collision.
When the truck swerved, it crossed into oncoming traffic and struck an eastbound tractor trailer head-on.
The truck that swerved was hauling double trailers full of grain. Its driver, 34-year-old Trevor Vanderwall, was not injured in the crash.
The driver of the eastbound truck, 47-year-old Anthony Nunez, was killed after being struck by the grain truck.
The driver of the pickup was also involved in the collision and was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, local WOODTV.com reported.
The impact caused the grain truck to overturn, spilling the load all over the road. The intersection was closed for nearly 11 hours, but has since reopened.
