The elderly of Athens, Alabama, have fallen victim to a scamming couple.

24-year-old Robbie Shane Stanley and 23-year-old Jade Nicole Lovell visited the homes of two elderly women, pretending to be roof company personal and lawn care employees.

It is believed that they stole 3 watches, worth $850, from one victim. The victim said she stayed outside, talking with Lovell, while Stanley walked around in her .

From the second victim, they were able to get away with roughly $1,575 in bracelets, cash, and other wallet contents.

According to AL.com, both victims noted that the scammers were driving a black pickup truck.

Stanley and Lovell had a good run until a truck driver noticed Lovell suspiciously leaving a purse in a dumpster. He called the Athens police and gave them the license plate number of the black pickup.

The police found the truck 20 minutes later with the two still inside. They were arrested and the police were able to return 90% of the stolen property.

Floyd Johnson, Athens police chief, had this to say, “I want to thank the truck driver that took time from his busy day and called the police department to report suspicious activity. In part his actions helped two of our citizens sleep better last night and two criminals go to jail.”
