Two people were killed in a crash on Highway 46 in Wasco, California early Wednesday morning.

KGET 17 News reported that a semi truck was traveling eastbound on the highway when it was approached by a westbound van. The van suddenly swerved into the path of the semi truck. The truck driver attempted to avoid collision but did not have sufficient time. The van crashed into the semi truck and killed two people on-board the van. The truck driver was not reported to be injured.

According to the California Highway Patrol, eight people were inside the van at the time of the crash. Passengers told reporters that they were carpooling to work.

The incident remains under investigation.
