Two Detroit Dept. of Transportation workers have been arrested for selling phony commercial driver’s licenses.
Investigators say Michelle Reed and Calvin Foulks received more than $4,000 to create 85 fraudulent Dept. of Transportation documents stating that the individuals took and passed the required commercial driver’s license skills test.
The fraud is believed to have taken place in 2012 and 2013.
The state has invalidated the licenses of the 85 individuals, and they are required to retest in order to have their driving privileges restored.
“At the time the alleged fraud took place, the city was also providing CDL testing for individuals other than city employees. We have requested the list of 85 individuals identified by the Attorney General’s office and will determine whether any of them are current city employees in a job that requires a CDL,” DDOT Director Dan Dirks said.
According to the Detroit Free Press, Foulks was charged with eight counts of felony forgery and Reed was charged with five counts. They face a maximum penalty up 14 years in prison for each count.
