
Two people were killed and several injured in a fiery crash involving multiple semi trucks.
The incident occurred around 3 p.m. on northbound Interstate 77 near Exit 65 in Chester, South Carolina.
According to WSOCTV, at least six vehicles, including three semi trucks, were involved in the crash.
Two semi trucks became engulfed in flames and were obliterated.
Smoke could be seen for miles.
Vehicles were demolished.
Two people died at the scene. Their identities were not released. At least 10 individuals were injured.
Helicopters airlifted victims.
Firefighters found a baby strapped into a car seat who was ejected onto the interstate. Luckily, the infant was not seriously hurt.
The Interstate was shut down in both directions for hours, causing motorists to become stranded in their vehicles.
Traffic was temporarily detoured via Exit 65 to SC901/US21 back to I-77. By 8p.m., the northbound lanes reopened.
Police are working to determine the cause of the crash.
