
A Honda Accord was struck by a a set of semi truck tires over the weekend, leading to a crash that killed two out of three people aboard the vehicle.
The incident occurred on Saturday, when a set of dual tires came loose from a tanker trailer traveling on the westbound lanes of Interstate 94 in Portage, Michigan. The tires launched over the median, striking the car that was traveling in the eastbound lanes.
According to the Detroit Free Press, 67-year-old backseat passenger, Rebecca Avery, died at the scene of the crash; while the driver, 34-year-old Michael Ditewig, died the following day in Bronson Methodist Hospital.
The third person in the car suffered non-life-threatening injuries. An investigation is currently underway in order to determine what caused the tires to come off the truck.
