What started as a routine traffic stop turned into a massive drug bust in Greene County, Alabama last week.
It happened on Thursday, December 22nd, when an Alabama police officer pulled over a tractor trailer on Interstate 20/59 in Greene County. District Attorney Greg Griggers said the officer noticed several inconsistencies with the driver’s logbook and paperwork and asked for permission to search the vehicle.
“It was during the course of the traffic stop, the arresting officer noticed some things that were out of place with respect to his documentation in regarding his load, his logs,” Griggers said.
After the driver agreed to the search, officers discovered 167 pounds of cocaine hidden in secret compartments in the truck, Alabama.com reported. The total street value of the drugs was estimated at $2.2 million. It was the largest drug bust in the history of Alabama’s 17th Judicial Drug Task Force.
The driver, a hispanic male, was arrested and charged with cocaine trafficking. His name has not been released due to the ongoing investigation.
