
A truck driver trapped a cargo thief inside his refrigerated trailer at a rest stop in Indiana, early Monday morning.
It happened at the eastbound rest area on Interstate 74 near Batesville around 4:15 a.m.
According to the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office, the truck driver, Joel Schumacer of Hanska, Minnesota, was parked at the rest area and heard noises coming from his trailer. When he realized that his load was being robbed, he quickly locked the trailer doors, trapping the suspect inside.
The refrigerated trailer was -10 degrees and loaded with frozen meat.
According to the Batesville Herald Tribune, when officers arrived at the scene, they heard the suspect, 51-year-old Malcom Denton, banging on the trailer door to get out.
Denton was arrested and taken to Ripley County Jail. He was charged with felony theft and unauthorized entry of a vehicle, a misdemeanor.
